SR-603-000 (3) PE:GRJ:SS Council Meeting: July 29, 1986 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FRON: City Staff SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute A Memorandum of Understanding wi th the Teamsters Union Local 911 INTRODUCTION This report requests that Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Teamsters Union Local 911. BACKGROUND The MOU with the Teamsters Union Local 911 expired June 30, 1986. Negotiations which commenced in May resulted in the attached MOU. This new two-year agreement was ratified by the membership of Teamsters Local 911 on July 28, 1986. This agreement provides that the City will pay for the State Disability Insurance plan for the employees, eliminates the two-tier approach to workers' compensation benefits, expands the definition of sick leave to include family illness, establishes a sick leave buy-back plan (like MEA), reduces sick leave accruals to one day per month for all employees, raises "cap" on medical insurance to $214 per month, provides for Agency Shop under certain conditions, and enhances certain other non-economic working conditions. - 1 - There is a 3-5% equity adjustment first year. The base salary will year and 4% ln the final year cost-of-living changes. for selected classes in the increase 6% during the first of the agreement to reflect RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute the attached MOU with the Teamster Union Local 911.
