Resolution Authorizing the City Manager to Execute A
Memorandum of Understanding with the Santa Monica
Firefighters Local 1109 IAFF
INTRODUCTION
This report requests that Council adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing
the City Manager to execute a memorandum of
understanding (MOU) with the Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109
IAFF.
BACKGROUND
The MOU with the Santa Monica Firefighters Local 1109 expired on
June 30, 1986. Negotiations which commenced in April resulted in
the attached MOU.
This new agreement was ratified by the
membership of Local 1109 on August 16, 1986.
The agreement increases the amount of uniform allowance, provides
overtime at the rate of time and one-half for Captains and
Battalion Chiefs, increases the amount of Paramedic Bonus in the
second year, converts the amount of administrative and staff
adjustments from a percentage to a flat rate, provides for an EMT
bonus for all qualified employees in second year, "caps" medical
insurance contributions at $214 per employee per month, and makes
some non-economic changes in working condition.

There is a 5% equity adjustment in the first year. The base
salary will increase 6% during the first year and a minimum of
3.5% in the final year of the agreement to reflect cost-of-living
changes.
RECOMl1ENDATIONS
It is recommended that Council adopt the attached Resolution
authorizing the City Manager to execute the attached MOU with the
Santa Monica Firefighters.
