SR-011006-1h City Council Meeting 1-10-06 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Resolution Repealing Resolution Number 6161 (CCS) Relating to the Rate of Reimbursement for Employee Use of Personal Cars for City Business Introduction The attached resolution would repeal an antiquated Council resolution which was adopted in 1980 to establish a mileage reimbursement rate for employee use of personal cars for City business. The resolution is being submitted for adoption. Background In 1980, the Council adopted Resolution Number 6161 (CCS) establishing a mileage reimbursement rate of 22.5 cents per mile. No Council resolutions on mileage reimbursement have been adopted since. In 2000, the City Manager issued an Administrative Instruction establishing a mileage reimbursement rate that reflected then current costs. Since then, the Administrative Instruction has been updated. However, the Council has never repealed Resolution Number 6161 (CCS). Discussion The attached resolution would repeal Resolution Number 6161 (CCS). It was prepared, at the request of the Finance Department, to address and eliminate a potential legal conflict between the old resolution and current reimbursement rates. 1 Financial/Budget Impact There will be no financial impact attendant upon repealing Resolution Number 6161 (CCS). Recommendation It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying resolution be adopted. PREPARED BY: Marsha Jones Moutrie, City Attorney ATTACHMENT: Proposed Resolution See Adopted Resolution No. 10103 (CCS) 2
