SUBJECT: Award Purchase Order to Furnish and Deliver Motorola Radio Equipment for
the Fire Department
Introduction
This report recommends award of purchase order to Motorola for radio communications
equipment for the Fire Department in the total amount of $215,115.02 including applicable
sales tax.
Background
The Fire Department requires thirty-one (31) 800Mhz Motorola XTS5000 hand held radios
and sixteen (16) 800Mhz Motorola XTL5000 mobile radios to enhance emergency
communications.
Discussion
The Fire Department was awarded Fire Act Grant funding for the acquisition of this
equipment. The Fire Act Grant requires the City to provide a thirty (30%) percent match
($64,534.51) to access $150,580.51 in Federal funds for the purchase.

Ordinance Number 1998 (CCS), Section 5, Chapter 2.24, Section 2.24.080 (b) of the
Santa Monica Municipal Code allows exception to competitive bidding when goods or
services have been competitively bid by another federal, state or county government.
Motorola?s pricing is based on the City of Los Angeles Contract #58169.
Budget/Financial Impact
Budget authority is in the Capital Improvement Budget account numbers C200544.589000

C010544.589000 ?Fire Communication System Replacement? in the amount of $64,534.51.
Recommendation
It is recommended that Council award a purchase order to Motorola in the total amount of
$215,115.02 including applicable sales tax.
