SUBJECT: Award Purchase Orders to Teknion LLC, Herman Miller Workplace
Resource, and ICF Group for Furniture for the Main Library
Introduction
This report recommends award of purchase orders to Teknion LLC, Herman Miller
Workplace Resource, and ICF Group to furnish workstations, seating, and tables for the
Main Library, in the total amount of $692,612.92 including applicable sales tax.
Background
The Main Library is scheduled for completion in Fall 2005. The purchase orders are for
workstations, seating, and tables for use by City staff members and the public.
An interdepartmental group worked with the design team to select Library furnishings.
Additional input was received from the Library Board and community members who
participated in public meetings. An emphasis was placed on comfort, durability, design,
compatibility with other equipment, maintainability and life-cycle cost. The purchase price
reflects discount rates from 40 to 60 percent.

Ordinance Number 1998 (CCS), Section 5, Chapter 2.24, Section 2.24.080 (b) of the
Santa Monica Municipal Code allows exception to competitive bidding when goods or
services have been competitively bid by another federal, state or county government.
Teknion LLC?s pricing is based on GSA Contract #GS-28F-0016N; Herman Miller
Workplace Resource?s pricing is based on U.S. Communities Contract #AGO607; and ICF
Group?s pricing is based on GSA Contract #GS-28F-0044J.

Budget authority is in the Capital Improvement Budget account number C010491.589000

Recommendation
It is recommended that Council award purchase orders as follows:
1. Teknion LLC in the total amount of $228,506.70 for workstations;
2. Herman Miller Workplace Resource in the total amount of $162,028.72 for seating
and tables; and
3. ICF Group in the total amount of $302,077.50 for tables.
The above amounts include applicable sales tax.
