SUBJECT: Award Bid to Provide Computer Networking Equipment for the Main
Library, Bid# 2889
Introduction
This report recommends award of bid to provide computer networking equipment for the
Main Library, in the total amount of $366,417.62, including applicable sales tax.
Background
The Main Library is scheduled for completion in fall 2005. This purchase is part of the
project budget and replaces existing network equipment which has become obsolete,
ensuring compatibility with current computer industry cabling standards as installed in
the new library. A trade-in of existing network equipment reduces the cost of new
equipment. Funds were set aside in 2002/03 for this purpose.
Discussion
In May 2005, the City published Notices Inviting Bids to provide computer networking
equipment in accordance with City specifications. Bids were received and publicly
opened and read on May 20, 2005. Bid forms were mailed to forty-six vendors and
notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.

Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by Insight Public Sector and finds that it meets City
specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Funds for this purchase were established during design of the new library and
previously incorporated into the project budget. Funds in the amount of $366,417.62
are available in the Capital Improvement Budget account number C040491.589000

Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2889 be made to Insight Public Sector as the
best bidder, in the total amount of $366,417.62, including applicable sales tax.
