SR-700-001-03 (5) F:\FinancialOperations\Purchasing\STFRPTS\SRBDFIREPUMPERS.DOC Council Meeting: June 14, 2005 Santa Monica, California TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Award Purchase Order to KME Fire Apparatus to Furnish and Deliver Two (2) Pumper Vehicles Introduction This report recommends the City Council approve the purchase of two (2) pumper vehicles for the Fire Department from KME Fire Apparatus, in the total amount of $725,653.58 including applicable sales tax. Background The two diesel-powered pumper vehicles will be used by Fire Department personnel to carry hoses, ladders, and water to fires. This request provides for the replacement of 1975 and 1984 pumper vehicles that are no longer cost effective to maintain and are part of the Fire Department Emergency Vehicle Replacement Program. The purchase of diesel- powered emergency response vehicles is acceptable under the City?s reduced emission policy. Discussion Section 2.24.080 of the municipal code allows exception to competitive bidding when other 1 government agencies have already publicly bid the same equipment. The City of Rancho Cucamonga recently solicited bids for pumpers and selected KME Fire Apparatus as the best bidder after receiving responses from four (4) vendors. Budget/Financial Impact Fiscal Year 2004/2005 budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget account number C010480.589000 ?Fire Emergency Response Apparatus Replacement Program?. Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council award a purchase order to KME Fire Apparatus for two (2) pumper vehicles in the total amount of $725,653.58, including applicable sales tax.
