Council Meeting: June 14, 2005 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Award Purchase Order to KME Fire Apparatus to Furnish and Deliver Two
(2) Pumper Vehicles
Introduction
This report recommends the City Council approve the purchase of two (2) pumper vehicles
for the Fire Department from KME Fire Apparatus, in the total amount of $725,653.58
including applicable sales tax.
Background
The two diesel-powered pumper vehicles will be used by Fire Department personnel to
carry hoses, ladders, and water to fires. This request provides for the replacement of 1975
and 1984 pumper vehicles that are no longer cost effective to maintain and are part of the
Fire Department Emergency Vehicle Replacement Program. The purchase of diesel-
powered emergency response vehicles is acceptable under the City?s reduced emission
policy.
Discussion
Section 2.24.080 of the municipal code allows exception to competitive bidding when other
1
government agencies have already publicly bid the same equipment. The City of Rancho
Cucamonga recently solicited bids for pumpers and selected KME Fire Apparatus as the
best bidder after receiving responses from four (4) vendors.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 2004/2005 budget authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement
Budget account number C010480.589000 ?Fire Emergency Response Apparatus
Replacement Program?.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council award a purchase order to KME Fire Apparatus for
two (2) pumper vehicles in the total amount of $725,653.58, including applicable sales tax.
