Council Meeting: September 28, 2004 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Award of Contract for Franklin Street Reservoir Roof Strengthening
Introduction
This report recommends that City Council award a construction contract for strengthening
of the Franklin Street Reservoir Roof to Denboer Engineering and Construction, Inc., the
best bidder, in the amount of $279,500 and approve a contingency amount of $27,950
(10%).
Background
The City Council appropriated funds in fiscal year 2004 to structurally rehabilitate the roof
slab of the Franklin Street Water Reservoir, which was built in the late 1940?s. The
pavement on top of the Reservoir shows signs of distress and has inadequate steel
reinforcement.
Discussion
A Notice Inviting Bids for the construction contract was published on July 15 and 17,
2004 in The Los Angeles Times and the F.W. Dodge newsletter. Six contractors
requested bid packages and the City Clerk's office received four sealed bids, which
were publicly opened on August 5, 2004 by the Deputy City Clerk.
