SUBJECT: Lease Agreement with the County of Los Angeles for Office Space at the
Airport Courthouse Facility
Introduction
This staff report recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to
negotiate and enter into an agreement with the County of Los Angeles for office space
at the Airport Courthouse Facility.
Background
Early this year, the County of Los Angeles informed the City that all criminal
misdemeanor matters would be moved to the Airport Courthouse in July of 2004. As a
result, the Criminal Division of the City Attorney?s Office will be required to do its daily
courtroom work at the Airport Courthouse instead of the courthouse next to City Hall.
Likewise, civil deputies appearing on certain routine matters will be required to travel to
the Airport Courthouse. As a result, a small amount of office space and file storage will
be needed.
Discussion
The proposed lease would grant to the City approximately 370 square feet of office
space along with three non-reserved parking spaces. The cost per month would be

$960.00, for a total of $960.00 for FY 2003-04 and $11,520 for FY2004-05. The lease
term would begin in June, 2003, and would expire on June 30, 2007. The amount of
rent due for FY2005-06 and 2006-07 is subject to a cost of living increase, which would
most likely raise the rental for the office space during second and third years of the
lease.
Financial/Budget Impact
There are sufficient Department funds available for FY2003-04 in its supplies and
expenses accounts. Future expenditures will be reflected in the annual budget of the
City Attorney?s Office.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and
execute a lease agreement through June 30, 2007, with the County of Los Angeles for
office space at the Airport Courthouse Facility.
