Council Meeting: November 11, 2003 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Contract with Verizon to Purchase an Option 11 PBX Telephone Switching
System for the Public Safety Facility, including one year of maintenance, for
a total amount not to exceed $59,465.41, with four additional one-year
maintenance renewal options.
Introduction
This report recommends the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and
execute a contract with Verizon California, Inc. for equipment and services required to
install an Option 11C PBX Telephone Switching System with the previously authorized and
purchased Vesta 911 Dispatch System for a total amount not to exceed $59,465.41, with
four additional one-year maintenance renewal options.
Discussion
On December 17, 2002, Council authorized the negotiation and execution of an agreement
with Verizon for equipment and services required to install a new 911 dispatch system. The
Vesta 911 system and services purchase was largely funded by State of California law
enforcement block grants. The 911 system was installed and became operational on
August 26, 2003. During the course of the installation it became apparent that in order to
1
implement desirable advanced technology features inherent in the 911 system and to
provide an interface to the City?s central telephone switching equipment, it would be
necessary to purchase and install a complementary Option 11C PBX Telephone Switching
System. The Option 11C was purchased and installed to coincide with completion of the
911 system.
Budget/Financial Impact
Funds in the amount of $59,465.41 available from law enforcement block grant funds
(Account #C20053702.589000.36049W and Account #01053702.589000.35050W).
Additional years? maintenance renewals, if optioned, will be funded from Police
Maintenance Account #01304.533580.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and
execute an agreement with Verizon California, Inc. for the Option 11 PBX Telephone
Switching System, including one year of maintenance, for a total amount not to exceed
$59,465.41, with four additional one-year maintenance renewal options.
