City Council Meeting: October 14, 2003 Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Agreement with Northern California Training Institute for Fire
Internships to Institute Trainees.
Introduction
This staff report recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to
enter into an agreement with Northern California Training Institute, so that the
Fire Department may provide internship opportunities for students from the
training institute and may benefit from the students? work.
Discussion
The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services Emergency Medical
Services Agency has established licensing and certification requirements for
Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedics. One of the requirements is that
EMT-Paramedic students gain clinical experience in the field by doing an
internship at a facility, which is an approved emergency medical services
provider. The Northern California Training Institute would like Santa Monica Fire
Department, an approved facility, to provide internships for some of its program
students. By our participation we assist the community by training future
paramedics.
