SR-901-001 (6) RMD:MR:JM:F:RESOURCE/STAFFREPORTS/1751-3 Cloverfield Site Acquisition 10-22-02.doc Council Meeting: November 12, 2002 Santa Monica, California To: Mayor and City Council From: City Staff Subject: Authorization to Negotiate Terms and Conditions for Acquisition of Real Property Located at 1751 ? 1753 Cloverfield Boulevard Introduction The two-story commercial property located at 1751 ? 1753 Cloverfield Boulevard is currently vacant and available for purchase. The approximately 33,700 square foot site is zoned LMSD, Light Manufacturing Studio District, and is improved with a two-story, 22,000 square foot building formerly used for light industrial purposes. Discussion Acquisition of property fronting on Cloverfield Boulevard between Michigan Avenue and Twenty-Sixth Streets is not a part of any currently defined City project. However, the site at 1751-1753 Cloverfield Boulevard has been identified as useable for a variety of potential public purposes including, but not limited to, possible social service programs such as Ocean Park Community Center/Daybreak funded through Community and Cultural Services Department. If City Council authorizes staff to discuss possible acquisition of the property with its owners or representatives, staff would return to Council for further authorization to acquire the property on behalf of the City. 1 Budget/Financial Impact There is no budget or financial impact at this time. Source of potential acquisition funds has not been determined. However, funding would in any event be provided through sources other than the City General Fund. Recommendation It is recommended that City Council authorize staff to open preliminary discussions with the owners or representatives of the real property located at 1751 ? 1753 Cloverfield Boulevard for its possible acquisition by the City.
