SR-901-001 (5) RMD:EDD:DM:F:\RESOURCE\SHARE\STAFFREPORTS\BBB Acquisition 312-316 Santa Monica Blvd.doc City Council Meeting: October 22, 2002 Santa Monica, California To: Mayor and City Council From: City Staff Subject: Authorization to Negotiate Terms and Conditions for Acquisition of Real Property Located at 312-316 Santa Monica Boulevard Introduction The one-story commercial property located at 312-316 Santa Monica Boulevard immediately easterly of Third Street Promenade and immediately adjacent to the Big Blue Bus primary Transit Mall bus stop has been listed for sale on the open market. The approximately 4,000 square foot site is zoned BSC1, Bayside Commercial, and is potentially useable for a variety of public purposes. Discussion Acquisition of property fronting on Santa Monica Boulevard is not a part of any current defined City project. However, the commercial building at 312-316 Santa Monica Boulevard is suitable for a variety of potential public transit-related purposes including, but not limited to, possible Big Blue Bus operating offices, bus driver break room, transit rider service center and restroom facilities serving Transit Mall riders and the general public. If City Council authorizes staff to discuss possible acquisition of the property with its owners or representatives, staff would return to Council for further authorization to acquire the property on behalf of the City. 1 Budget/Financial Impact No budget or financial impact is incurred as a result of action on this recommendation. Any possible future budget or financial impact will be subsequently identified and reported. Recommendation It is recommended that City Council authorize staff to open preliminary discussions with the owners or representatives of the real property located at 312-316 Santa Monica Boulevard for possible acquisition by the City at fair market value.
