IntroductIon
ThiS report recommends an award of bid to furnish and deliver one new skip loader for the
Tree Maintenance DIVIsIon, Commumty and Cultural Services Department In the total
amount of $40,920 17, including applicable sales tax
Background
In response to published NotIces Invltmg Bids (published June 1 and June 2, 1998) In
accordance wIth CIty speCIfIcatIons, bIds were received and publicly opened and read on
June 25, 1998 Proposal forms were maIled to four vendors and notIces were advertIsed
In accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provISions Three proposals were
received as follows

The new skIp loader WIll replace a 1986 Massey Furgeson tractor for CommunIty and
Cultural Services Department, Tree Maintenance DIVIsion, Unit number 14432 as part of
the Vehicle Replacement Program The skIp loader WIll be used to load and compact

brush and tree cuttings, load and remove logs, load and remove stump grmdlngs, spread
chipped greenwaste as part of the CIty's Recycling Program, and load topsoil for tree
planting projects
The purchase of thiS dIesel powered vehicle IS consIstent with the City's reduced
emiSSions fuel polley There IS no California AIr Resources Board (CARB) approved
conversion kIt available for thIS vehicle at thiS time, and there IS no estimate of when a
CARB approved conversion kIt will be available to convert the vehicle to compressed
natural gas
Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that It meets City specificatIons

Improvement Budget, account number 54-710-461-20098-8900-99167, "Fleet Vehicle

Recommendation
It IS recommended that the award of Bid #2709 be made to Cook Tractor Equipment In the
amount of $40,920 17, including applicable sales tax, as the lowest bidder
