SUBJECT Recommendation to Award a Purchase Order to R J Llson Company for the
Purchase of One (1) Propane Powered Sweeper for Pier Maintenance
Introd uctJon
This report recommends the purchase of one (1) Power Boss SW 9 XV Deluxe propane
powered sweeper for Pier maintenance as part of the Vehicle Replacement Program, In the
total amount of $28,694 44, Including applicable sales tax
Backaround
On June 17, 1997, the City Council accepted the bid of R J Llson Company and
authorized the purchase of two (2) new sweepers As authorized under SectIon
2 24 080(2) of the City Municipal Code, the bid speCifications Included the provIsion that the
vendor be willing to prOVide additional new sweepers for a penod of 120 days While the
bid speCification penod has expired, staff has confirmed With R J Llson Company that they
are willing to extend their bid price to thiS purchase
ThIS propane powered sweeper will replace a 1981 Advance gasoline powered sweeper,
Unit #14142, as part of the vehicle replacement program It will be used for sweeping PIer
sidewalks Staff recommends a propane powered sweeper Although CNG Units are
available, there are no CNG fuehng faclhtle~ ;o_cated at the PIer, and the sweepers 00(;

legally be driven on streets to the local CNG fueling facIlity located at the Southern
California Gas Company Propane powered umts have removable bottles which can be
filled at Beach mamtenance facIlities or the City Yards
