Introduction
This report recommends an award of bId to furnIsh and deliver one (1) 2-Drum VIbratory
Compactor vehicle for the Street Maintenance DIvISion, Environmental and Public Works
Management Department, In the total amount of $32,150 25, Including sales tax
Backaround
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published September 30 and
October 1, 1997) to furnish and deliver one (1) 2-d rum Vibratory compactor In
accordance With City speCifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on
October 14, 1997 Proposal forms were mailed to two vendors and notices were
advertIsed In accordance With City Charter and MuniCipal Code provIsions Two
proposals were received as follows

The compactor will replace a 1984 Bomag Roller, Unit #14559, as part of the vehicle
management program It will be used by the Street Maintenance DIvIsion for pavement
maintenance of all streets, alleys, City-owned parking lots, and State highways located
Within the City ThiS vehicle IS not manufactured With an alternative fuel-powered engine
There IS no Cahfornla Air Resources Board (CARS) approved converSion kit available for
thiS vehicle at thiS time The purchase of thiS diesel-powered vehicle IS consistent With
the City's reduced emiSSions fuel policy Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that It
meets City speCifications
