SUBJECT Recommendation to Appoint New Members to the City's Task Force on the
Environment
I NTRODUCTI ON
This report recommends that City Council appoint Tim Carmichael and Sandy Grant to fIll
vacancies on the Task Force on the Environment
BACKGROUND
The Task Force on the Environment was established by the City CouncIl In July 1991 With
the appointment of seven members recommended by the City Manager All members
reside or are employed Within the City of Santa MOnlca They possess expertIse In vanous
environmental areas ranging from storm water pollution control to energy effICiency
Since Its inCeption, the Task Force has proVided Input and leadership on environmental
Issues Impacting the City and was a pnnclpallnltlator of the Santa Momca Sustainable
City Program The Task Force developed the goal setting process With respect to the
City's broad environmental agenda and has proVided ongoing adVice and expertise as
specific program proposals have been formulated

DISCUSSION
Linda Waade, Executive Director of the Coalition for Clean Air, has resigned from the
Task Force due to personal obligatIons Ms Waade's aSSocIate, TIm CarmIchael, Polley
DIrector for the Coalition for Clean Air, has submitted an application for membership In
addition to his responsibilities With the Coalition, he IS a board member of the Los Angeles
League of Conservation Voters, and volunteers for the human nghts organization Office of
the Amencas Apnl Smith, an environmental consultant, has resigned from the Task
Force due to personal reasons Sandy Grant has applied to serve on the Task Force
Ms Grant IS a human resources trainer and an active participant In many events hosted
by our Sustainable City Program
The four remaining members of the Task Force, CIty staff and the City Manager
recommend that Tim Carmichael and Sandy Grant be appointed to fill the vacancies

There are no budget/financIal Impacts associated With thiS recommendation
RECOMMENDA TIONS
It IS recommended that City Council authonze the City Manager to appoInt Tim Carmichael
and Sandy Grant to fill the vacancies on the Santa Monica Task Force on the
EnVironment
