Introduction
This report recommends that the C y Councr ;onsder alternatives for a site to be
named for former Mayor Chrrstlne Emerson Reed
Background
Chrrstlne Reed. who lost her fight against cancer last year, served on the City
Council from 1975 to 1990 and as Mayor from 1984 to 1986 As a clttzen activist
and later as a council member, she supported efforts to clean up Santa Monica Bay
and helped to restore the Santa Monica Pier In addition to her regular Council
dutIes, she ably represented the City's Interests on the Los Angeles County
Transportation Commission and Metropolitan Water Dlstrrct Board Her children
grew up attending local schools and plaYing In the Clty's parks
At the City Council meeting of Aprrl 8. 1997 staff was directed to prOVide
suggestions. Including those submitted by members of the public. for a site to be
named for her
