Introduction
ThiS report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver two (2) new sedans for the
Administration DIvIsion, Fire Department, In the total amount of $57,16037, including
applicable sales tax
Background
In response to published Notices InViting Bids (publIshed February 6 and 7, 1997) to
furnish and deliver two new sedans In accordance With City speCifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on February 20, 1997 Proposal forms were
mailed to seven vendors and notices were advertised In accordance With City Charter
and MUniCipal Code provIsions Three proposals were received as follows

These vehicles wIll be used for emergency response and must be blfuel (CNG/gasohne)
because these vehicles may travel outside of the range of a CNG fueling station,
dependmg on the location of the emergency One of the vehicles Will replace an older
Unit which IS scheduled for replacement under the vehicle management program The
other unit will be an additional vehicle for a newly created Fire Prevention Inspector
position
The purchase of these CNG/gasollne powered vehicles IS consistent with the City'S
reduced emISSion fuel poliCY
The bids submitted by Bob Beaty Ford and Crenshaw Motors are non-responsive
Neither vendor could proVide a blfuel (CNG/gasollne powered vehicle)
Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by Downey Auto Center and finds that It meets
City speCifications
Budget/Fmanclal Impact
Fiscal Year 1996-97 appropnatlon authority for thiS purchase IS In the Capital
Improvement Budget, account number 54-710-461-20097-8900-99167, "Fleet Vehicle
Replacement Program - All Funds"
Recommendation
It IS recommended that CounCil reject the bids submitted by Bob Beaty Ford and
