INTRODUCTION
Th1S 1S to recommend that the C1ty Counc1l wa1ve rental and parking
fees for the use of the Santa Monica C1V1C by the Veterans
Admln1strat1on for December 14-17, 1993 for the "Wests1de Homeless
Veterans Fa1r 1993 II
DISCUSSION
In July of ~991 the Vletnam Veterans of Amer1ca, Westside Chapter,
w1th a coal1tion of governmental, veteran, charitable and pr1vate
agencles conblned to produce the "Homeless Ve':.erar..s Stand Down" a'::
the Santa Monlca civic. Veterans received food, shelter, cloth1ng,
wed~cal and legal assistance, as well as, counseling in the areas
of Job readlness, drug and alcohol treatment.
In 1992 the Department of Veterans Affairs held the "Westslde
Homeless Veterans Fa1r 199211 at the C1vic Audltorlum. The Fa1r
eP1phaSlZed employment, sho::t- and long-term affordable hous1ng,
nedlcal and legal assistance, veteran and soclal security benefits
and substa:lce abuse treatLlent. Four Hundred and twen'c.y-f1ve

ThlS year the Departwent of Veterans Affairs has requested December
15 and 16, 1993 for the "Westslde Horrteless Veterans Fair 1993.JJ
Particlpants would agaln be housed a~ a cold weather shelter at the
West Los Angeles Armory a~d trarrsportatlon would be provided to the
C1V~C Audltorlum. It wlll be a two day event wl~h one ITOVe-1D and
one ~ove-out day.

BUDGET!?IKANCIAL IMPACT
C1ty staff has determined tha-;:: the Clvic A~ditorlum 1S available
on the dates requested The value of the waived rental is $10,000
and parking lS est1mated at $900.
RECOMMENDATION
It is requested that the C~ty Councll wa1ve the rental and parking
fees associated wlth the use o~ the Santa ~onlca C~VlC Auditorlum
for the "Westside Homeless Veterans FaJ.r 1993" scheduled from
December 14-17, 1993
