BACKGROUND The Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP) is the lead agency responsible for granting and administering funds to projects under Senate Bill 2323, Chapter 1441 passed in 1986. Selected projects are required to develop an interagency task force which will identify, track, prosecute, and intensively supervise juvenile serious habitual offenders ( SHOs ) . The Santa Monica Police Department submitted a proposal requesting funds to initiate a SHO project and the proposal was funded for a one-year cycle. Two additional years of funding may be provided subject to successful project operation. 6 -'.B JUN 2 2 1993 ----- - -- ---- ---- - . Agencies from law enforcement, probation, prosecution, social services, correction and schools work together to ensure better treatment and supervision of SHOs, the small number of juveniles who commit a disproportionate number of crimes. The funds will provide personnel and computer equipment to develop an interagency task force and maintain an automated data base to capture and disseminate information within the Santa Monica Police Department and to other entities of of the juvenile justice system and schools. BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT Acceptance of this grant will not increase City costs.
