SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
Miscellaneous LDmber and Lumber Supplies, Bid 2330
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver
miscellaneous lumber and lumber supplies at specified unit
prices, plus applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
March 26 and 27, 1991) to furnish and deliver miscellaneous
lumber and lumber supplies in accordance with City
specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read
on May 14, 1991. Proposal forms were mailed to six vendors and
notices were advertised in accordance with city Charter and
Municipal Code provisions. Two proposals were received as
follows:
Cost of a Representative Array
of Lumber and Lumber supplies
Mar Vista Lumber $50,800.08
Fisher Lumber Company $60,193.00

The city bid specifications requested firm prices for a one-year
period. Mar Vista Lumber could only hold prices for fifteen (15)
days. The bid submitted by Fisher Lumber Company meets the City
specifications.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1991/92 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the maintenance accounts of various departments. As the
materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed
against available FY 1991/92 appropriation authority.
Recommendation
Staff recommends rejection of the low bid from Mar Vista Lumber
due to failure to meet specifications. It is recommended that
the award of Bid #2330 be made to Fisher LUmber at specified unit
prices, plus applicable sales tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
