SR-6-F (132) 6-F MA\ ,~ =:J: LUTM:PB:RF:db:SIGS:TRAF:GENSERV Santa Monica, California Council Meeting, May 28, 1991 To: Mayor and city Council From: city Staff Subject: Recommendation to Authorize the City Manager to Negotiate and Execute a Funding Agreement with Los Angeles County Transportation Commission for the Construction of Traffic Signal Improvements along Wilshire Boulevard Introduction This report requests that City council authorize the city Manager to negotiate and execute a funding agreement with the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission for the upgrade, modernization and computerization of the traffic signals along Wilshire Boulevard. Discussion City staff has prepared a traffic signal improvement project for Wilshire Boulevard from Ocean Avenue to centinela Avenue. The project consists of upgrading, modernization and computerizing (synchronizing) all the signals along Wilshire Boulevard. This is the first phase of a citywide plan to computerize and synchronize our traffic signals. The City of Santa Monica is scheduled to receive $1. 7 million from the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission (LACTC), under their Combined Road Plan ( CRP) cash account funds, for the construction of this project. 6-r M!\V -----")........ .~:'"'~'" - 1 - l.!or , ~. 1....:J1 --- -- - - -- - At their meeting of July 24, 1990, the City Council authorized the city Manager to execute a professional services contract with BSl Consultants for the design of this project. The project design has been completed and approved by the state of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) for bid advertisement. Upon completion of the funding agreement and the approval from LACTC, the project will be advertised for bid. The project would begin construction in the fall of 1991 and be completed by the summer of 1992. BUdget/Financial Impact The construction contract (including the construction engineering) will cost approximately $1.7 million. Appropriation authority for the project was established in FY1990-91 in ClP Account 42-770-415-22292-8900-99475 in the amount of $1. 7 million. Appropriate revisions to Revenue Account 43-500-401-00000-0076-10000 will be included in the proposed FY1991-92 City Budget. Recommendation It is recommended that the city council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a funding agreement with the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission for the construction of upgrade, modernization and computerization of the traffic signals along Wilshire Boulevard.
