SUBJECT: Recommendation to Authorize city Manager to Negotiate
and Execute Contract wi th containerized Chemical
Disposal, Inc.
Introduction
This report recommends that city Council authorize the City
Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with containerized
Chemical Disposal, Inc. in the amount of $55,000 to provide
hazardous waste transportation and recycling/disposal services.
Background
The City of Santa Monica generates regulated hazardous waste on a
continuous basis from the emergency response, in-house activities
and Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
state and
federal regulations require that hazardous wastes from emergency
responses and in-house activities be stored at City facilities
for no longer than 90 days. Hazardous wastes must be transported
and then recycled/disposed by a State-certified and permitted
company.
Staff has reviewed proposals from four companies to provide these
services. Based upon a compliance audit, competitive pricing and
safety record, staff has determined Containerized Chemical
Disposal, Incorporated, to be the best company to provide these
services.

Recommendation
