Tomght's Council Agenda Item 9A regardmg the "ExpanSIOn of the Santa Momca College PreferentIal
Parkmg Zone'. IS a matter that IS of great concern to Santa Momca College and Its neIghbors
PrevIOusly Santa MOllIca College and the CIty of Santa Momca agreed that the creatmg of a preferentIal
parkmg zone arolUld the college reqUIred an EnVIronmental Impact Report (EIR) Throughout the process
of preparmg the report. Implementmg the plan, and the constructIOn of parking structures on the campus
to seIVlce the dIsplaced cars, the CIty and the college worked cooperatIvely to address the mutual problem
Smce the expanSIOn of the Santa Moruca College preferentIal parkmg zone has the potentIal of havmg a
sIgruficant effect on the enVIronment. we request that the CIty prepare an ErR on the project and mclude
m the study mmgatIOn for the Impact of sluftmg the cars to other locatIons
Tlus new reSIdentIal area requestmg reSIdent parkmg only has been Impacted by the change m parkmg
patterns of students We beheve thIS change IS related to the loss of a sIgmficant number of on campus
parkmg spaces because of the Northndge Earthquake \Ve are makmg every effort to recover the lost
parkmg as qUIckly as pOSSIble. RealIzmg the Issue needs ImmedIate attentIOn. the college deSIres to work
WIth the CIty of Santa MOllIca to explore all the pOSSIble solutIOns to the parkIng Issue, and acIuevmg a
workable solutIOn
