The requested resolution is attached. RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying resolution be adopted. RESOLUTION NUMBER 8948 - (City Council Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA IN SUPPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA LOW-EMISSION AND ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE (LEV/ZEV) PROGRAM WHEREAS, local communities, businesses, and governments have a vested interest in creating programs that benefit both the environment and economy of the state of California; and WHEREAS, six of the seven uni ted States counties wi th the worst ozone pollution problems are located in California, and Southern California is the only region in the country with an Environmental Protection Agency rating of "extreme non-attainment" for ozone; and WHEREAS, it is estimated that air pollution costs Southern California approximately Nine Billion Dollars per year in lost productivity, increased medical costs, and premature deaths; and WHEREAS, significant progress has been made in reducing stationary source emissions, and California's industries and small businesses should not have to bear an unfair burden for reducing air pollution; and WHEREAS, the mobile source sector is responsible for producing at least two-thirds of the air pollution in Southern California; and 1 --- --- - -- - -
