For Street Resurfacing, Curb and Gutter Construction on Montana
Avenue, Fourth Street, and California Avenue, as Part of the 1990-91
Street Resurfacing Program
Introduction
This report requests that C1ty Council approve an additional $24,500.00 for
street resurfacing, curb and gutter construct i on on Montana Avenue, Fourth
Street and California Avenue as part of the 1990-91 Street Resurfacing
Program.
Background
Each Fiscal Year, the City Council authorizes a C1ty-wide Street Resurfacing
program which includes street resurfacing, slurry seal i n9 , curb, gutter and
sidewalk construction. The 1990-91 Street Resurfacing contract was awarded on
May 14, 1991 by the City Council, to Hillcrest Contracting, Inc., the lowest
responsible b1dder.
Dur1ng this construction, additional unanticipated work was done in areas on
Montana Avenue, Fourth Street and Cal ifornia Avenue. These improvements
included the reconstruction of sldewalks uplifted by tree roots on Montana
Avenue, and the reconstruction of curb medians on Fourth Street and California
Avenue. The additional work on these three streets resulted 1n a cont1ngency
short fall when the work was completed. Funds are available in the annual
street resurfacing program account. 6 -/)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING CHAPTER 2A OF ARTICLE VII
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO
WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES AND DECLARING THE
PRESENCE OF AN EMERGENCY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Chapter 2A of Article VII of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
CHAPTER 2A - WATER CONSERVATION
SECTION 7240. Findings. The City
Council finds and declares:
( a) The State of California,
including the city of Santa Monica, suffers
from recurring severe drought conditions and
even during non-drought periods water is a
scarce resource throughout much of Southern
California.
(b) An active water conservation
program within the City of Santa Monica is
essential to preserve water resources and to ---.
reduce the risk and severity of water
shortages when drought occurs.
