Introduction
This report requests that the City Council increase the existing
contract dollar amount awarded to steiny and Company at the
October 8, 1991 council meeting by $8,000.00 (from $40,000.00 to

of the midblock pedestrian signal on Main Street between Hollister

commercial development on the east side of Main street).
Discussion
In December 1990, the City Council authorized the installation of
a midblock pedestrian signal on Main street between Hollister
Avenue and Ocean Park Boulevard. The contract for this project was
awarded to steiny and Company, the lowest responsible bidder, on
October 8, 1991 in the amount of $40,000.00 plus $4,000.00 in
contingencies. Due to current disabled persons right-of-way access
requirements and unusual curb height conditions at the site (both
realized after the award of the contract) , the two (2) standard
wheelchair access ramps to be constructed for the project had to be

redesigned. After receiving bids from several concrete sub-
contractors, steiny and Company realized that they could perform
the work for less money than the sub-contractors' bids.

Funds required: Contract $40,000.00
Contract Increase 8,000.00
contingencies 4,000.00
New Contract Total $52,000.00

construct the two (2) modified access ramps are available in the
capital improvement account #01-770-416-24188-8918-99139 (Traffic

Recommendation
It is recommended that the city council increase the total contract

constructlon of two (2) modified wheelchair access ramps within the
existing contract for the installation of a midblock pedestrian
signal on Main street between Hollister Avenue and Ocean Park
Boulevard.
