SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
One ( 1) New 80,000 Gross commercial Weight (GCW) Tandem
Drive Truck Tractor, Bid 2393.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver one ( 1)
New 80,000 GCW Tandem Drive Tractor for the Solid Waste
Management Division, General Services Department, in the total
amount of $55,635.09, including applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published January
22 and 23, 1992) to furnish and deliver one (1) new 80,000 GCW
Tandem Drive Truck Tractor in accordance with City
specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read
on February 5, 1992. proposal forms were mailed to twenty-eight
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Five proposals were
received as follows:

The truck tractor will be used to transport City collected refuse
to various landfill locations.
The new truck will replace a similar vehicle purchased in 19B2
(over 9 years old) . This vehicle has been driven in excess of
350,000 miles.
This vehicle is currently manufactured to only use diesel fuel
(alternate fuel vehicles are not available at this time) . Diesel
fueled vehicles are one of the alternative fuel vehicles iden-
tified in the city's vehicle fuel policy. Staff has evaluated
the low bid and finds that it meets City specifications.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1991/92 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Capital Improvement Program Budget General Government
Category, account number 27-710-441-20092-8900-99005, "Refuse
Vehicle Replacement."
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2393 be made to Inland
Empire White GMC in the total amount of $55,635.09, including
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
