SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Dry
Caustic Soda, Bid #2370
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and del i ver dry
caustic soda for the Water Division, General Services Department,
at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published
August 29 and 30, 1991) to furnish and deliver dry caustic soda
in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on September l7, 1991. Proposal forms
were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.
Three proposals were received as follows:

Dry caustic soda is used for the City's standard pH adjustment
procedure by the Water Division. staff has evaluated the low bid
and finds that it meets City specifications.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1991/92 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Water Division, General Services Departments, account
number 25-500-671-00000-4401-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2370 be made to Jones
Chemicals, Inc. at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales
tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
