INTRODUCTION This report requests that council adopt the attached Resolution establishing two new job classifcation: Community Services Officer I and Community Services Officer II. DISCUSSION Community services Officer I. The jOb classfication title of Parking structure Attendant has been changed to Community Services Officer I. The title of parking structure Attendant was more indicative of one who attends a parking lot. with the recent development of the Third street Promenade, the responsibilities of the Parking structure Attendant have expanded beyond patrolling parking structures. Additional responsibilities of the Parking Structure Attendant include patrolling, on foot or bicycle, surrounding streets and alleys of the Promenade. The jab classification title of Parking structure Attendant has been changed to community services Officer I to better reflect the job duties of the position as well as to establish a career ladder for civilian positions within the division. The classification specification of Community services - 1 - 6-6 NOV 1 2 1991 ~ ... Officer I was revised and approved by the Personnel Board on October 16, 1991. The Community services Officer I classification will replace the Parking structure Attendant classification, and the salary will remain unchanged. Community Services Officer II. with the trend in law enforcement of utilizing civilian personnel to relieve sworn personnel of various duties, the Community Services Officer responsibilities have become more complex. In addition to writing a variety of police reports, Community Services Officers are involved in conducting preliminary investigations of a variety of crimes. The job specification has been revised to better define the job responsibilities of the position. The job title has been changed to Community services Officer II to distinguished it from Community Services Officer I. The classification specification of Community Services Officer II was revised and approved by the Personnel Board on October 16, 1991- The Community Services Officer II classification will replace the Community Services Officer classification, and the salary will remain unchanged. BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT There is no budgetary impact resulting from this reclassification of two job classifications since the salary rates do not change. - 2 - ~ :" RECOMMENDATIONS It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution establishing the salary rates for these classifications. The following monthly salary levels are hereby established for the indicated permanent classifications, effective November 13, 1991. Community Services Officer I $2578jMonth E-Step ($2758 with PERS) community services Officer II $2883jmonth E-Step ($3085 with PERS) SECTION 2.
