SUBJECT: Recommendation for contribution to Wests ide Urban
Forum to Assist in Funding Model Affordable
Housing study
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends the city council contribute $5,000
toward the development of an analysis of affordable housing
production on the wests ide of Los Angeles and the production
of a model affordable housing program.
BACKGROUND
The City has been asked by the westside Urban Forum, a non-
profit organization dedicated to the discussion and analysis
of critical land use and related urban issues, for a
contribution toward its endeavor to commmission a study of
affordable housing production. The study would analyze
existing affordable rental housing programs, and propose a
model for the production of affordable rental housing. The
entire study will cost $75,000, the bulk of which funding
comes from the Forum itself and Kaiser Permanente Medical
Care Programs and the Los Angeles County Transportation
Commission. Santa Monica would be joining each of four

other westside cities, Los Angeles, West Hollywood, Beverly
Hills and Culver City, if it contributes $5,000 toward this
effort.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT
To effect this contribution, the Council must allocate
$5,000 from account 01-700-274-00000-7785-00000, which is
the non-departmental contingency account.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City council
allocate $5,000 from account 01-700-274-00000-7785-00000 to
assist in funding the Wests ide Urban Forum's affordable
housing study.
