This report recommends award of bid to furnish and dehver one four wheel drive utlhty
vehIcle for the OffIce of Operations DIvISion, Police Department, In the total amount of
$28,125 DO, Includmg applicable sales tax
Backaround
In response to published Notices InvIting Bids (published December 30 and 31, 1998) In
accordance With City specificatIOns, bids were received and pubhcly opened and read on
January 14, 1999 Proposal forms for one four wheel drive utility vehIcle were mailed to
seven vendors and notices were advertised In accordance With City Charter and MUnicipal
Code proVISions Two proposals were received as follows

This vehicle will replace a 1994 Ford Explorer which IS no longer cost effective to repaIr It
will be used for routme beach patrols and for rescue situations such as towmg other
vehicles out of the sand and other emergency responses
Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that It meets City specifications The purchase of
this gasoline powered vehicle IS consIstent With the City's reduced emiSSion policy The
vehicle will be used for emergency response

Recommendation

as the lowest responsible bIdder
