EPWM CP AA kd s \sp1702\councll\cc1702 Council Meeting December 15, 1998 Santa Monica, California TO Mayor and City CouncIl FROM City Staff SUBJECT Award of Contract for Accessibility Curb Ramp Construction at Vanous Locations Throughout the City Introduction This report recommends that the City Council award a contract for the construction of curb ramps at vanous City locations to C J Construction Inc , the lowest responsible bidder, In the amount of $71.535 Backqround In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, the City has established policies and procedures and Initiated a plan tor compliance wIth ADA requirements throughout the City The installation of curb ramps at various locations throughout the City IS part of the compliance plan The ADA requires that bUildings, structures, sidewalks, curbs and related facilitIes be accessible and usable by persons with disabilities ReqUIrements of the Act Include keeping an unobstructed path of travel through a public right otway or to a public faCIlity, and maintenance of a minimum slope tor ramps 1 "J DEe 1 5 1998 , A Notice InViting Bids was published on August 12 and 13. 1998 In The Los Angeles Times Bidding documents were sent to SIX woman/mmonty-owned bUSiness enterprise aSSOCiations Bidding packages were requested by seven contractors The City Clerk's office received SIX sealed bids, whIch were publicly opened and read aloud on September 1. 1998 by the Deputy City Clerk The bid results were as follows 1 C J Construction I nc $ 71,535 2 Los Angeles Englneenng, Inc $ 96,000 3 Damon Construction Co $106,540 4 Kalban.
