SUBJECT: Resolution Establlshing Rules of Order for
the Conduct of Clty Councll Meetlngs
At lts meeting on July 12, 1983, the Clty Council dlrected
the City Attorney to revise the Rules of Order for the Conduct
of City Council Meetlngs to provlde that a two-thirds vote of
those counCllmembers present would be requlred to extend any
council meetlng beyond 11:00 p.m. In response to thlS dlrec-
tion, the accompanying resolutlon has been prepared and lS
presented for Clty Councll consideratlon.
The Rules of Order for the Conduct of Clty Councll
Meetlngs was last adopted on November 3, 1981, by the adoptlon
of Resolution Number 6387 (CCS). Rule 31 currently provides:
All Clty Council Meetlngs shall
adJourn at 11:00 p.m. unless otherWlse
determined by a maJority vote of the
City Council.
In order to lmplement the Clty Councll dlrectlon, Rule 31
has been amended to provide that the meeting may be extended II by
a two-thirds vote of those Councllmembers present. II No other
changes have been made in the rules.
