Introductlon
Thls report recomlJlends that Courrcll, by resolutlon, authorlze the
donatIon of certaIn inactive CIty records to the Santa f10nica HlS-
torical Soclety and the Herltage Square Huseurl for Joint exapunat Ion
as addltlons to their hlstorlcal collection. Of speclal hlstorical
signlficance are leather bound ledgers of the City assessnent roles
dated 1888 to 1929.
Background
The above-mentioned records have been stored In the City ~al1 base-
ment vault for T"J.any years. They have been luventorled and dlSDosi-
tlon has been authorIzed by the deDart~e~t head and the City Attorney.
Recorunendation
It is recomTIended that the Council adopt the attached resolutIon pro-
vidIng for the disposltlon of inactIve hlstorlcal records as descrlbed.

RESOLUTION ~O.6227
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY
CLERK AND THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA TO DISPOSE OF CERTAIN CITY
RECORDS UNDER THEIR CHARGE.
WHEREAS, it has been determlned that certain City records under
the charge of the following City Department(s) are no longer required
for public or private purposes;
Clty Clerk
Finance
and
WHEREAS, it has been determined that disposltlon of the above
mentioned materIals is necessary to conserve storage space; an.d re-
duce staff time, expense and confusion in handling and infor~ing the
public; and
KHEREAS, Sectlon 34090 of the Government Code of the State of
California authorizes that the City official having custody to dis-
pose of any City records and documents which are over two years old
under his or her charge, WIthout making a copy thereof, after the
same is no longer required, upon the approval of the City Council by
resolution and the written consent of the City Attorney; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk has been designated as the offIcial
custodlan of records in the City of Santa Monica; and
WHEREAS, it is therefore deSIrable to dispose of said records
listed In Exhibit !tA" attached hereto and made a part hereof, In

and;
WHEREAS, sald records have been approved for dispositIon by the
department head(s) and City Attorney

NOW. THEREFORE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MOXICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That approval and authorlzation lS hereby glven to
dispose of those records descrlbed as Exhjblt itA" attached hereto and
flade a part hereof.
SECTION 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution. and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk is authorlzed to allow examlnation
by and donation to the Santa Monica Historical Society records pending
disposltlon as described hereln. except those deemed confidentlal in
the opinlon of the Clty Attorney of said City.
