Introduction
ThiS report recommends that the City Council Increase the compensation paid to the
City's Metropolitan Water Dlstnct Director
Background
The City of Santa MonIca IS a member agency of the Metropolitan Water Dlstrrct
(MWD) As a member agency, the City appoints a director to represent the City at
meetings of the Board of Directors The term of the current director will expire on
December 31 , 2003
DISCUSSion
The compensation currently paid to the City's MWD dIrector IS $50 per meeting not to
exceed $100 per month ThIS rate was established several years ago Staff proposes
to increase the compensation to $100 per meeting not to exceed $200 per month
retroactive to July 1 , 1999 A 1998 compensation survey conducted by the MUnicipal
Water Dlstnct of Orange County shows that out of seven cItIes (includIng Santa MOnica)
surveyed, two cities (Burbank and Torrance) pay their directors $200 a month and four
cities (Beverly Hills, Glendale, San Manno and Santa Ana) do not pay their directors

The current budget for the City's MWD director IS $1,200 at line Item 25671 511040
SuffiCient budget for the Water DIvIsion eXists to accommodate this action
RecommendatIon
It IS recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution Increasmg the
compensatIon paId to the CIty's MWD dIrector to $200 a month.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CI1Y OF SANTA MONICA
REVISING THE COMPENSATION FOR THE CITY'S METROPOLITAN WATER
DISTRICT 01 RECTOR

WHEREAS, the City of Santa Montca IS a member agency of the Metropolitan
Water Dlstnct, and
WHEREAS, the CIty of Santa MOnica IS entitled to appoint one dIrector to
represent the City of Santa MonIca on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water
Dlstrlct, and
WHEREAS, the CIty of Santa Monica JOints a director from time to time. and
WHEREAS, the City compensates the director for his/her time
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOllOWS.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
REVISING THE COMPENSATION FOR THE CITY'S METROPOLITAN WATER
DISTRICT DIRECTOR
WHEREAS, the City of Santa MOnica IS a member agency of the Metropolitan

Water Dlstnct, and
WHEREAS, the CIty of Santa MOnica IS entitled to appomt one director to
represent the City of Santa MOnica on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water
Dlstnct, and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica appoInts a director from tIme to time, and
WHEREAS, the CIty compensates the director for his/her time
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS
FOLLOWS
Section 1 Beglnnmg, July 1, 1999, the compensation for the City's Metropolitan
Water Dlstnct Director shall be $100 per meetIng not to exceed $200 per month
Section 2 ThIS City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of thiS Resolution and
