Branch Library Improvements
Introduction
This report recommends that the City CounCil authOrize the City Manager to negotIate
and execute a professional services agreement not to exceed $178,000 With Klllefer
Flammang PurtJII (KFP) Architects for preparation of deSign and construction documents
for the City's branch libraries
Background
On February 25, 1999, a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was Issued to 20 firms for
architectural services for Improvements to the City's branch libraries and for the
expansIon and renovation of the Main Library Qualifications Statements were submitted
to the City on March 23, 1999 and reviewed by a selection committee conslstmg of the
Director of EnVironmental and Public Works Management, the City Llbranan, the
ASSIstant City Llbranan, and a City Architect On May 10,1999, a Request for Proposals

(RFP) was sent to four fIrms that were short-listed by the committee The four fIrms
submitted proposals to develop design and construction documents The four firms were
Interviewed by the selection committee KllIefer Flammang Purtill Architects was
selected as the most qualified to provide the necessary services for the branch library
Improvements Klllefer Flammang Purtlll Architects has designed other libraries such as
the Mid Valley Regional Library and the Jefferson Branch Library, In the City of Los
Angeles, as well as the Green Valley Library and Cultural Center In Las Vegas
The proposed Improvements Include Incorporation of a new multipurpose room, new roof,
IIghtmg upgrades, repair of damaged ceilings, and landscaping Improvements at the
Montana Branch Library, conversion of the story corner Into a new technology center at
the Ocean Park Branch Library, and creation of an addition to the Falrvlew Branch Library
to house a new technology center
