SUBJECT Recommendatlon to Award Bld to Furnish and Dellver One(l) New Dlesel Powered 4-Wheel Loader wlth Speclalized Bucket, Bld #2517 Introduction ThlS report concerns award of bld to furnish and deliver one(l) new diesel powered, 4-wheel loader wlth speclallzed bucket for the Solid Waste Dlvlsion, Environmental and Public Works Management Department, in the total amount of $135,252.96, including appllcable sales tax. Background In response to published Notlces Invlting Bids (publlshed October 28, 31, 1994) to furnish and dellver one (1) new diesel powered, 4-wheel loader with speclallzed bucket. In accordance with Clty speclficatlons, blds were recelved and publlcly opened and read on November 14, 1994. Proposal forms were malled to six vendors and notices were advertised in accordance wlth City Charter and Municlpal Code provlslons. Three proposals were received as follows: VENDOR AMOUNT Contractor's Equipment Company $111,375.18 Coastllne Equlpment Corp. $135,252.96 Shepherd Machinery Company $139,654.41 DEt 1 3 1994 - 1 - 6 F - ~-- The vehicle is needed to replace a ten-year-old 4-wheel loader and will be used to load refuse ~nto trailers to be transported to the landf~ll site. The purchase of th~s diesel powered vehicle is consisent with the City's reduced emiss~ons fuels policy because this speciality veh~cle cannot be configured to accept a reduced emission fuel. The bid submitted by Contractor's Equipment Company 1S non- responsive. The~r b~d ~ncluded outboard brakes which do not meet C~ty specifications Staff has evaluated the b1d submitted by Coastl1ne Equipment Company and finds that it meets C~ty specifications. Budget/Financ1al Impact Flscal Year 1994-5 appropriat~on authority for this purchase is in the Capital Improvement Budget Program, account number 27-710-441- 20095-8900-99005; 'tRefuse Vehicle Replacement." Recommendation It is recommended that Council reject the bid submltted by Contractors Equipment Company because ~t does not meet City spec1ficat~ons. - 2 - . - '" ..
