ROUTES IN THE CITY
At lts meetlng on November 22, 1994, the City Council lntroduced
for flrst reading an ordinance amending Munlcipal Code Sectlon
3. 12 . 680 deleting 28th Street from the list of secondary truck
routes in the City. The ordinance is now presented to the city
Council for adoption.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanYlng ordinance be
adopted.

OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING MUNICIPAL CODE
SECTION 3.12.680 DELETING 28TH STREET FROM

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Munlcipal Code Sectlon 3.12.680 is hereby amended
to read as follows:
3.12.680. Regulation of operation of vehicles over
a certain size.
(a) Weight Limltations. It shall be unlawful for

any vehicle having a gross welght, lncluding load, in
excess of three (3 ) tons to be operated on any street
withln thlS city except those streets deflned ln
subsections (b) and (c) as primary or secondary truck
routes, except when necessary for the purposes of making
pickups or deliverles of goods, wares, and merchandise
from or to any building or structure located on the
restricted street or for the purpose of delivering
materials to be used in the actual and bona flde repair,
alteration, remodeling, or constructlon of any bUllding

or structure upon the restrlcted street for Hh1Ch a
bU1lding perm1t has previously been obta1ned.
(b) Primary Truck Route. The pri~ary truck route
1S to be used for all lnter-City and 1nterstate truck
trafflc and shall be as follows:
(1) The Santa Monlca Freeway.
(2) Olympic Boulevard.
(3) The Pacific Coast Highway.
(4) Llncoln Boulevard, from Olympic Boulevard
to the southerly Clty limits.
(c) Secondary Truck Routes. The secondary truck
routes are to be used by trucks transporting merchandise,
materlals, or equ1pment havlng an or1g1n or destinatlon
wlthln the City llmlts and are as follows:
(1) Montana Avenue, from Seventh Street to
Twenty-Sixth Street.
(2) Santa Monica Boulevard.
(3) Colorado Avenue.
(4) Broadway, from Ocean Avenue to Twenty-
sixth street.
( 5) Exposition Boulevard.
( 6) Pico Boulevard, from Ocean Avenue to the
easterly City Ilmlts.
(7) Ocear Park Boulevard, from Lincoln
Boulevard to the easter~y city llmlts.

(8) Ocean Avenue, from Santa Monica Boulevard
to Pico Boulevard.
(9) Neilson Way.
(10 ) Main street, from Pleo Boulevard to the
southerly Clty llmits.
(11) Lincoln Boulevard, from Montana Avenue to
Olympic Boulevard.
(12) Eleventh street, from pico Boulevard to
Santa Monica Boulevard.
(13) Fourteenth street, from Ocean Park
Boulevard to Montana Avenue.
(14) Seventeenth Street, from pico Boulevard
to Santa Monica Boulevard.
(15) Twentieth Street, from pico Boulevard to
Montana Avenue.
(l6) Cloverfield Boulevard, except between
Pico Boulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard.
(17) Twenty-sixth street, except between
Montana Avenue and the northerly City limits.
(18) Stewart Street.
(d) Deviation from Established Routes. When it
becomes necessary for any vehicle to devlate from the
primary or secondary truck routes as permitted by
subdivlsion (a) , such deviatlon shall be made by way of
the shortest possible route or routes between the

destlnation on the restrlcted street and the nearest
streets described in subdivisions (b) and (c) .
( e) Exemptions for Governmental Vehicles and City
Licensed Private Vehicles. ThlS Seetlon shall not apply
to vehlcles owned or operated by any federal, state,
county, or local governmental agency while such vehicles
are being used in the performance of thelr dutles.
(f) Codificatlon. This Sectlon, 1nsofar as lt
designates truck routes, lS a codiflcation of Ordinance
Number 709 (CCS) .
SECTION 2. Any provision of the Santa Monica Munlclpal Code
or appendices thereto, inconslstent with the provislons of thls
Ordlnance, to the extent of such lnconslstencies and no further,
are hereby repealed or modified to that extent necessary to effect
the provisions of this Ordinance.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsectlon, sentence, clause, or
phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or
unconstltutlonal by a decision of any court of any competent
]urlsdictlon, such deC1Slon shall not affect the validlty of the
remalning portlons of this Ordlnance. The City Councll hereby
declares that lt would have passed thlS Ordlnance, and each and
every section, subsection, clause, or phrase, not declared lnvalld
or unconstltutlonal without regard to whether any portion of the

Ord:lnance would be subsequently declared inval:ld or
unconstitutional.
SECTION 4 . The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this Ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be publlshed once :In the official newspaper
within 15 days after its adoption. This Ordinance shall become
effectlve after 30 days from lts adoption.
