Request for Council Approval of Co-Sponsorship of
the Third Annual California Water Policy Conference
INTRODUCTION
This report requests City council approval of co-sponsorship of the
third annual California Water Policy Conference to be held 1n Los
Angeles on October 21-22, 1993.
DISCUSSION
For the last two years, the city has co-sponsored the Cal1fornia
Water Policy Conference which has helped define water policy issues
and led to several major water policy legislative initiatives.
This year's conference is entitled "Beyond Consensus" and will
focus on integrated resource management, the impacts of providing
alternate sources of water supply, and major water system reform.
The conference brings together policy makers, water industry
professionals from agricultural districts and urban agencies, and
environmental groups to discuss these and other issues to help
advance the decision making process. Other Co-sponsors include the
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Public Officials for
Water and Env1ronmental Reform (POWER), and the Environmental Water
Leadership Council.

BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT
The contribution amount for conference co-sponsorship is $1,000.00.
These funds are available from existing Environmental Programs
budget account number 31-110-662-00000-4429-00000.
RECOMMENDATIONS
It 1S recommended that City Council approve a $1,000.00
contribution for co-sponsorship of the third annual California
Water Policy Conference.
