SUBJECT Recommendation to AuthOrize the City Manager to Negotiate and Execute
a Contract With Future Technology Personnel for Techmcal Services for
Implementation and Support of the City's Database Applications
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends that the City Council authOrize the City Manager to negotiate and
execute a contract With Future Technology Personnel for technical services for
Implementation and support of the City'S database applications
BACKGROUND
Information Systems IS In the process of Implementing new client server technologies and
has the need for qualified database administrators There are two permanent pOSItions
funded In the Information Systems fiscal year 1998/1999 budget Temporary contract
servIces are needed to support payroll, financlals, HelpDesk, permits, Imaging and many
other systems while the City completes the recrUitment and selection process for these
database administrator posItions The need for these temporary services will end when
the selection process for these pOSitions IS completed seven months Into the 1998/1999
fiscal year Without these temporary services the Integrity ofthese new systems and data
could be compromised

DISCUSSION
Information Systems conducted a search of technology consultmg firms and mtervlewed
several contractors to provide database administration services Of the three firms
contacted, two proVided quallf[ed candidates for mtervlews Of the two firms, staff found
resources from Future Technology Personnel to be the best qualified and at the most
competitive rates Further analysIs determined that Future Technology Personnel's fee [S
reasonable for the work to be performed, expertise of assigned personnel and has staff
ava[lable to meet the Implementation schedules of the CIty

The cost of these technical services w[1I not exceed $100,000 Funds are available at
accou nt number 01-110-223-00000-5506-00000
RECOMMENDATION
It IS recommended Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a contract
with Future Technology Personnel for technical consulting services not to exceed
$100,000
