SUBJECT Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Two Refuse
Collection Vehicles (One 22 Cubic Yard, One 26 Cubic Yard), Bid #2705
Introduction
This repo.rt recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver two refuse collection vehIcles
(one 22 cubIc yard, one 26 cubic yard) for the Solid Waste Management DIvIsion,
Environmental and Public Works Management Department, In the total amount of
$419,181 88, Includmg applicable sales tax
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published May 28 and 29, 1998) m
accordance WIth CIty specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on
September 1, 1998 Proposal forms were mailed to twelve vendors and notices were
advertised In accordance With City Charter and MUnicipal Code prOVIsions One proposal
was received as follows

The new 22 cubic yard truck will replace a 1985 International refuse collectIon vehicle and
the 26 cubIC yard truck WIll replace a 1984 InternatIonal recycling collectIon vehicle 80th
trucks Will be used for trash collection
Staff contacted the eleven "no bId" vendors and they cannot provide CNG powered
vehicles as required by City specifications and chose not to bid an alternate fuel vehicle
The purchase of these CNG powered vehIcles IS consistent with the City'S reduced
emiSSions fuel poliCY
Staff has evaluated the sole bid and finds that It meets City specifIcations

FIscal Year 1998-99 appropriatIon authOrity for thIs purchase IS In the CapItal
Improvement Budget, account number 54-710-461-20098-8900-99167, "Fleet Vehicle
Replacement Program".
Recommendation
It IS recommended that the award of Bid #2705 be made to Carmen Ita Truck Center m the
total amount of $419,181 88, including apphcable sales tax, as the lowest responsIble
