Introduction
This report recommends the City CounCil adopt an ordinance deleting vanous sections
of the Santa Momca MUnicipal Code relating to the designation of preferential parking
zones and adopt a resolution re-deslgnatlng the zones by resolution
Back~round
On May 19, 1998, the City CounCil adopted an ordinance authorizing designation of
preferential parking zones by resolution Prior to that preferential parking zones were
designated by ordinance
At the meeting, the CounCil directed staff to revise the eXisting ordinance and re-
designate the zones by resolution The attached ordinance and resolution are In
response to that direction

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA DELETING VARIOUS SECTIONS
OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO
THE DESIGNATION OF PREFERENTIAL PARKING ZONES
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has changed the process for deslgnatlng
preferential parking zones, and,
WHEREAS, preferential parkmg zones can now be designated by resolution,
and,
WHEREAS, It IS appropriate to delete eXisting sections of the Santa MOnica
Municipal Code designating preferential parking zones and re-desglnate the zones by
resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS
SECTION 1 Sections 308 120, 308 130, 308140, 308 150, 308160,
3 08 170, 308 180, 308 190, 308200, 308210, 308220, 308230, 308240,
308250, 3 08 260, 3 08270, 308280, 308290, 308300, 3 08 310, 3 08 320,

Code are deleted
SECTION 2 Any provIsion of the Santa Monica MUnicipal Code or appendices
thereto inconsistent with the provIsions of thiS Ordinance, to the extent of such
inconsistencies and no further, are hereby repealed or modified to that extent
necessary to affect the provIsIons of thiS Ordinance
SECTION 3 If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, or phrase of thiS
Ordmance IS for any reason held to be Invalid or unconstitutional by a decIsIon of any
court of any competent JUriSdiction, such deCISion shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions of thiS Ordinance The City CounCil hereby declares that It would

have passed this Ordinance, and each and every section, subsection, sentence,
clause, or phrase not declared Invalrd or unconstitutional Without regard to whether any
portion of the Ordinance would be subsequently declared invalid or unconstitutional
SECTION 4 The Mayor shall sign and the CIty Clerk shall attest to the passage
of this Ordinance The City Clerk shall cause the same to be published once In the
official newspaper Within 15 days after Its adoption This Ordmance shall become
effective after 30 days from Its adoption

RE-ESTABLlSHING VARIOUS
PREFERENTIAL PARKING ZONES
WHEREAS, the CIty of Santa MOnica has changed the process for designating
preferential parking zones, and,
WHEREAS, preferential parking zones can be desIgnated by resolution, and,
WHEREAS, It IS appropriate to delete eXlstmg sectIons of the Santa Monica MUnicipal
Code designating preferentIal parking zones. and re-deslgnate the zones by resolution,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
Section 1 The preferential parking zones listed on Exhibit A (Preferential Parking Zones)
are hereby established The regulations applicable to the PreferentIal Parking Zones are
as follows
(a) The named and descnbed streets or areas listed on Exhibit A and
Within the CIty shall constitute a Preferential Parking Zone
(b) No vehicle shall be parked or stopped adjacent to any curb In any
Preferential Parking Zone listed on ExhIbit A dUring the hours prohibited In Exhibit
A Without a permIt Issued and dIsplayed In accordance With Chapter 3 08 of the
Santa Monica MuniCipal Code
(c) Any vehicle parked or stopped Without a permit, when required. may
be removed from the street by any polIce officer
(d) The annual (12 months) fee for each permit Issued for any
Preferential Parking Zone shall be $15 00 per permit, or as preViously adopted and
as listed on Exhibit A, or such other fee as may be established from tIme to time
by resolution of the City Council

Section 2 The City Clerk shall certify to the adoptIon of thIs Resolution, and thenceforth
and thereafter the same shall be In full force and effect
