Introduction
This report recommends award of bid to deliver one tandem dnve 48,800 GVWR dump
truck for the Water DIvIsion, Environmental and PubliC Works Management Department, In
the total amount of $159,96860
Backaround
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published May 28 and 29, 1998) In
accordance With City specifIcatIOns, bids were received and publicly opened and read on
June 23, 1998 Proposal forms were mailed to twelve vendors and notices were
advertised In accordance With City Charter and Municipal Code proVIsions Two
proposals were received as follows

The dump truck will replace a 1985 InternatIOnal dump truck and will be used to transport
hot asphalt, base and concrete matenals The bid submitted by Boerner Truck Center IS
non-responsive because their dump truck has a longer wheelbase (178") which does not
meet City specifIcations A 138" wheelbase IS reqUired for maneuverability In City streets
and alleys
Staff has evaluated the bid submitted by Carmemta Truck Center and fInds that It meets
City speCifications The purchase of this CNG powered dump truck IS consistent With the
City's reduced emIssIons fuel polIcy

Fiscal Year 1998-99 appropnatlon authOrity for this purchase IS m the Capital
Improvement Budget, account number 54-710-461-20098-8900-99167, "Fleet Vehicle
Replacement Program"
Recommendation
It IS recommended that CouncIl reject the bid submItted by Boerner Truck Center and that
award of bid #2703 be made to Carmemta Truck Center In the total amount of
$159,96860, Including applicable sales tax, as the most responsible bidder
