ThIS report recommends award of bid to furnIsh and delIver 100% rerefined motor 011 and
synthetIc transmiSSIon flUId for the Transportation Department at specified un,t prices plus
applicable sales tax and two one-year renewal optIons The estimated annual
expenditure IS $60,000
Backaround
In response to published NotIces Inviting Bids (published August 26 and 27, 1998) In
accordance With City specIfications, bids were receIved and publicly opened and read on
September 14, 1998 Proposal forms were maIled to four vendors and notices were
advertised In accordance With City Charter and MUnicIpal Code provIsIons Three
proposals were received as follows.

These products will be used by the Transportation Department as a part of the
preventative maintenance program on the City's buses and fire equipment The use of
rerefmed motor 011 and synthetic transmission flUid meets City environmental gUidelines
Rerefmed motor 011 IS a base 011 that has been cleaned and re-reflned This motor 011
meets all the performance standards of the American Petroleum Institute and the Society
of Automotrve Engmeers
Pmto Petroleum did not bid a synthetic transmission flUid as reqUired Staff has evaluated
the bId submitted by Rosemead 011 Products Inc and fmds that It meets City
specifications

accounts of the Transportation Department As matenals are drawn out of mventory,
they Will be expensed against available FY 1998-99 appropnatron authonty
Recommendation
It IS recommended that the award of Bid #2725 be made to Rosemead 011 Products Inc
at specified unit pnces plus applicable sales tax and two one-year renewal options, as
the most responsible bidder
