SUBJECT: RECOMMENDATION TO AWARD BID TO PROVIDE TIRE RECAPPING
SERVICE, BID #2437
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to provide tire recapping
service for the Fleet Management Division, General Services
Department, at specified percentage discounts plus applicable
sales tax.
BACKGROUND
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published October
9 and 12, 1992) to provide tire recapping service in accordance
with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened
and read on October 26, 1992. Proposal forms were mailed to four
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with city
Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two proposals were
received as follows:

This bid covers the repair and replacement of various types of
tires and tubes on city vehicles. Tire recapping is the

replacement of worn out tire rubber with new rubber. Recapped
tires are half the price of a new tire.
staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets city
specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1992/93 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Fleet Management Division, General Services Department,
account number 01-500-461-00000-2293-00000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2437 be made to
parkhouse Tire, Inc. at specified percentage discount plus
applicable tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
