SUBJECT:
Resolution Recommending that the Los Angeles
County Board of supervisors Be Increased from
Five to Nine Members
At its meeting on September 18, 1990, the City Council
voted to direct the City Attorney to prepare a resolution
recommending that the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors be
increased from five to nine members.
In response to this
direction, the accompanying resolution has been prepared and is
presented to the City Council for adoption.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the City council adopt
the attached Resolution, direct staff to forward the Resolution
to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisers, and urge other
cities within Los Angeles County to adopt similar resolutions.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA RECOMMENDING THAT THE COUNTY
OF LOS ANGELES BOARD OF SUPERVISORS BE INCREASED
FROM FIVE TO SEVEN MEMBERS
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles is one of the largest,
fastest growing, most diverse and populous counties in the United
states; and
WHEREAS, each member of the Los Angeles County Board of
supervisors represents a district that is more populous than some
states; and
WHEREAS, increasing the number of members of the County
Board of Supervisors will help to make the Board of Supervisors
more representative of and responsive to the needs of the
citizens of Los Angeles County,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council recommends and urges the Los
Angeles County Board of Supervisors to take all necessary steps
to increase the number of Supervisors from five to nine members
as soon as possible.

SECTION 2. The city Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
