Subject: Recommendation to Award a construction Contract for the
Demolition, Grading, Landscaping and Miscellaneous
Improvements to the Mount Olivette Reservoir site
INTRODUCTION
This report requests that the city council award a construction
contract for the demolition, grading, landscaping and miscellaneous
improvements to the Mount Olivette Reservoir site to Thomsen
Landscape, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of
$225,711.00.
BACKGROUND
The Mount Olivette Reservoir is no longer used due to its
deteriorated condition. The site requires numerous improvements to
be compatible with the neighboring residential neighborhood. The
upper portion of the reservoir, including exposed pipes,
miscellaneous slabs and concrete, will be demolished and removed
from the site. The remaining below grade portion of the reservoir
will be backfilled and the site will be graded to eliminate runoff
to neighboring property. A drainage system and crib wall will be
located along the east property line to eliminate soil erosion and
runoff onto the adjacent residential property which is
significantly lower than the reservoir site. Necessary repairs to
the existing perimeter fence will be made. In general, the site
will be improved to be compatible with the overall appearance of

the neighborhood.
A Notice Inviting Bids was published August 6 and 7, 1990, in the
Evening Outlook and in four construction journals. Bidding
documents were also forwarded to ten DBE contracting associations.
Bidding packages were requested by twelve contractors.
Seven bids were received on September 4, as follows:

Parties interviewed were generally satisfied with the qual i ty of
work performed by Thomsen Landscape.
