SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
One (1) New and Unused 10 Cubic Yard Capacity Rear
Loading Refuse Truck, Bid 2308
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver One ( 1)
New and Unused 10 Cubic Yard Capacity Rear Loading Refuse Truck
for the Solid Waste Management Division, General Services
Department, in the total amount of $65,115.37, inclUding
applicable sales tax.
Background
In response to pUblished Notices Inviting Bids (published
September 10 and 11, 1990) to furnish and deliver One (1) New and
Unused 10 Cubic Yard Capacity Rear Loading Refuse Truck in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on October 2, 1990. Proposal forms were
mailed to twenty-one vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.

Carmen ita Truck Center $60/107.72

This vehicle is being purchased as a part of the City's on-going
refuse vehicle replacement program.
The low bid by Cannenita Truck Center does not meet
specifications for the following reasons:
1. Body offered is too large and heavy for use on the pier. A
10 cubic yard body was specified and Carmen ita Truck Center
offered a 14 cubic yard body.
2. The truck offered by Carmeni ta Truck Center is too heavy.
The total TARE weight (total weight of vehicle) is 19,305
pounds compared to 16,000 pounds offered by other bidders.
staff has evaluated the bid from Boerner Truck Center and finds
that it meets City specifications.
BUdget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1990/91 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Capital Improvement Program budget, General Government
Category, account number 27-710-441-20291-8914-99005, liRe fuse

Recommendation
staff recommends rejection of the low bid from Carmeni ta Truck
Center because it does not meet City Specifications. It is
recommended that the award of Bid #2308 be made to Boerner Truck
Center in the total amount of $65,115.37, including applicable
tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
